Herbert H. Buffum produced an American Automobile called the Buffum in Abington, MA from 1903 to 1907. Buffum moved to Abington in 1890. He was an inventor of machinery, built bicycles and did various mechanical repairs. In 1903 Buffum built and perfected his first American Automobile.
H. H. Buffum was a pioneer of the flat engine of multiple cylinders. In 1902 the Buffum automobile was equipped with opposed four cylinder engines that were rated at 16 horsepower.

By 1907 The H. H. Buffum & Co. was making a Model H Touring Car and a Model E Touring Car. The Model H five passenger Touring Car sold for $4,000.00. While the Model E Touring Car was priced at $1,200.00 and $1,350.00 with a detachable Tonneau.
