1910-1919

On September 16, 1908 Billy Durant formed General Motors without much cash changing hands. General Motors purchased 13 American Automobile company's and ten parts and accessories manufacturers. Charles Warren Nash became Buick's president and general manager. The Buick Motor Car Co. was the foundation and chief source of revenue for General Motors.

Buick sales exceeded 40,000 units in 1910 or more than a hundred automobiles for every day of the year. The Buick model 10 was first introduced in 1909 at $950.00, the same price as the Ford model A. In 1910 William Durant raised the priced of the Buick model 10 due to financial problems at General Motors. However, raising prices in 1910 did not solve the problems at General Motors or Buick. By the end of 1910 Billy Durant lost control of General Motors to a group of bankers.

Final drive was by chain and planetary transmission with two forward speeds and reverse. The four cylinder Buick water cooled engines were available with 18, 24 and 30 horsepower. Three speed selective transmissions were used with these four cylinder engines.

World War I started in June of 1914 and the U.S. Congress declared war on Germany April 6, 1917. By 1915 World War I had spread all over the world and the United States was producing guns, tanks, ships and airplanes for the Allies, mainly England. The World War was reflected in Buick's advertising as can be seen in the 1915 advertising above. By 1916 Buick advertising switched back to what they did best and that was building the valve in head engine.
