Virgil White, a Ford automobile dealer in West Ossipee, New Hampshire produced about 25,000 Snowmobile conversion kits adapted from a Model T Ford.

In 1912 he applied for and was granted a Patent on March 18, 1913 for a "Runner Attachment For Automobiles".

Virgil White referred to the vehicle on his patent application as a Snowmobile. The end results was an odd looking Model T that could travel at top speeds of 15 miles per hour over unplowed roads.
